Alan Hale

Alan graduated from Pocatello High School. He received a B.A. in Music Education from Idaho State University in 1959.  He has done graduate work at the University of Utah, Utah State University and Idaho State University.  He began his music teaching career at Irving Junior High School in Pocatello, then moved to American Falls where he taught band and Choir.  In 1967 he became the choir director at Minico High School in Rupert where he taught for 17 years.  He finished his teaching career in Burley teaching Computer Science.

Alan has been active in IMEA for many years.  He has served as District V President, IMEA President, Editor of the Idaho Music Notes, Music Representative to Idaho High School Activity Association and was a charter member of the National Federation of State High School Activities Music Committee.  His high school choir performed twice at IMEA State Conference and at the Northwest MENC Conference in Billings, Montana.  While at Minco, he directed the music for 9 Broadway musicals.

He remains active in music activities, having been music director for 5 musicals for Mt. Harrison Heritage Foundation where he serves on the Board of Directors. He conducted the pit orchestra for 4 of those musicals. He has guest conducted the Magic Philharmonic Orchestra in 4 concerts currently plays tuba in the orchestra.  He sang in a very successful barbershop quartet “The Extension Chords” for 10 years. He plays piano at many functions in the Mini-Cassia area and performs regularly with “The Taffetas”, a popular women’s quartet.  He performed in the Pianorama at the Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree in 2006 where he organizes the volunteer sound staff.
