Alan Stanek earned a BME for the University of Colorado. He went on to earn a MM from the Eastman School of Music and his DMA from the University of Michigan. He began his teaching career in the Ainsworth, Nebraska Public Schools (3 years). He also taught in Cozad, Nebraska (2 years), Hastings College, Hasting, Nebraska (9 years), and Idaho State University (25 years).
While at ISU, Dr. Stanek taught clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, and flute. He was conductor/music director for the Idaho State Civic Symphony from 1976-1980, and was principal clarinetist for the symphony from 1980-2001. He served at the Music Department Chair for 25 years, from 1976-2001.
Dr. Stanek joined IMEA in 1976 and has served in various positions, including Collegiate Chair, State Solo Chairman, and President from 1988-1990. In 1998 he was awarded the Governor's Award for Support of Arts Education. He and his wife Janette have two children and one granddaughter.
