Jim Perkins received his BME nad MME degrees from the University of Colorado. He also did post graduate work at the University of Idaho, Idaho State University, and Boise State University. He began is teaching career in Flager, Colorado where he taught for two years. He next moved to Yuma, Colorado where he started with a band of 25. Two years later the band had 65 members. Jim spent two years a s musician/drum major for the Army. He spent the last 30 years of his career at Borah High School where he taught Marching Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and the Drill Team.
Jim has been a member of IMEA since 1962. In 2001 Jim was inducted into the Northwest Bandmaster Association. He has served on many music committees and in many leadership positions in the Boise area as he worked to promote music education.
Jim and his wife, Bonita, have four sons.
