John Terris earned his BA in Music Education from Eastern Washington University in 1965, then did graduate work at EWU, as well as U of Idaho and the University of Wisconsin. He taught Band and Orchestra at the Coeur d'Alene Elementary School for three years, at the Jr. High one year, and at the High School for 23 years. John served as District I President in 1975, and again in the 90's. He was chosen "Music Teacher of the Year' in 1987, was IMEA All-State Band Organizing Chair and given the "Citation of Excellence" by the National Band Association in 1988, and was a Charter member of "The Idaho Order of the Platypus" at the All-State IMEA Music Conference in Rexburg, Idaho.
John Terris has taken 61 groups to Festivals - receiving 59 Superior and 2 Excellent ratings from 1970 to 1998. His High School Marching Band placed first in the Spokane Lilac Parade 13 times, 4 of which were Grand Sweepstakes awards. John has been a member of MENC (1965-2004); National Band Association, American Guild of Organists, American String Teachers Association, and North Idaho Retired Educator's Association. He has been Church Organist for St. Thomas Catholic Church for 38 years.
