Ruth Turner

Ruth Turner earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University with additional credits earned from the University of Idaho and Boise State University. Following her graduation she taught fourth grade for two years in Twin Falls before becoming an elementary classroom music specialist. She stayed in that position for the next 25 years. During that time she also taught Elementary Music Methods classes for classroom teachers through Idaho State University and mentored several first year elementary music teachers.

Ruth was active in IMEA and conducted Elementary Music workshops at several conferences. She has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, serving as president for one term. She also organized a Children’s Choir at the Twin Falls First Baptist Church and directed it for nine years. In 1998, Ruth received the Governor’s Award for Support of the Arts.

As of her induction to the IMEA Hall of Fame, Ruth and her husband, Keith, have had 2 sons, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She has filled her retirement be being involved in the Magic Valley Arts Council having served on their Executive Board three times. She also helped initiate the Kids Art in the Park, a project of the Arts Council that has been a highly successful visual and performing arts outreach event.
