Walter Asbe graduated from Waldorf College (1955) and Luther College (1957) and sang in both college's touring choirs. He earned a Master of Music from the University of Idaho (1967). He started his vocal teaching career in Ridgeway, Iowa (1956-57); and taught band and vocal music in McGregor, Iowa (1957-60). He then moved west and taught music at Culdesac, Idaho (1960-62) and in Kamiah from 1962-1990. Walt served the Idaho Music Educators Association as President of District II for several terms between 1962 and 1990, and has been on the Board of Control as music representative for District II Interscholastic Activities for many years. Cancer operations and treatment interrupted his service, but Walt is now substituting part time wherever he is needed in the region. He sang in the Lewis-Clark College Choir for a time, then joined the Idaho-Washington Concert Chorale and has been a member of that group for 12 years. Walt and Eleanor have a grown daughter and son. Everyone in the Clearwater Valley knows Walt! He was asked to direct the Lewiston-Clarkston Community Band in 2003.
