Bill Baxter received his Bachelor of Science with emphasis in Music K-12 from Eastern Oregon State College in LaGrande, Oregon. He then began his teaching carrer at LaGrande Jr. High School, where he taught for four years. In 1974 he took time out from education to run the Baxter Music Company in LeGrande, which he did until 1982. It was at that time that he returned to teaching, this time at North Fremont High School in Ashton, Idaho. He remained there for the next 27 years. White at North Fremont he taught all vocal and instrumental classes in the high school, middle school and elementary. He also taght drama at the high school. While at North Fremont, Bill directed 27 major musicals. His bands and choirs consistently have received excellent and superior ratings at festivals.
Bill has been a member of the Oregon Music Educators Association, IMEA, and NAMM (the National Association of Music Merchants. He served on the Union, Oregon School Board and also served as the IMEA Sixth District President for nine years.
Bill and his wife, Ellen (deceased), had 10 children and as of his induction he has 30 grandchildren. He spends his retirement tuning pianos, remodeling homes, doing woodworking projects for his grandchildren, and still teaches part time as the music teacher at Ashton Elementary School.
