IMEA President Duties

1. Write quarterly columns for music notes. July, October, December, April.

2. Write NW board NEB reports (usually quarterly as well).

3. Attend all NW board meetings and be an active participant (you represent our state).

4. Collect, screen and send ALL-NW performing group audition materials to NW screening chair. May 1st alternate years.

5. Schedule, secure site and oversee all IMEA meetings. Summer Summit and Fall Board Meeting.

6. Write agendas for IMEA meetings.

7. Answer and/or delegate MENC requests in a timely manner.

8. Pass on MENC information to all IMEA members via e-mail.

9. Attend National Assembly meetings as president (and President-elect). It really gives you a better understanding of MENC/IMEA. July/Aug. Also, attend all NW board meetings.

10. Attend all social functions involving state and national leadership, or send a representative.

11. When hosting state events where MENC leadership attends, "roll out the red carpet" for the leadership. Make the MENC Divisional and national officers feel honored and welcome at our state function. (Some leaders like to be left alone, but treat them like royally until they say that's enough. This is a very positive reflection on our state.)

12. Supervise/oversee the in-service sessions for the All-State conference.

13. Secure All-State 2-4 years prior, and many other logistical items for the conference.

14. Organize, plan and emcee the banquet at the All-State conference.

15. Secure speakers for opening and/or closing sessions, banquets etc.

16. Secure regional and National leaders to attend our conference. (fill out MENC official Visitation Request Forms & MENC resource shop 1 1/2 years prior to the conference.)

17. Work closely with Past-President to align performing groups with conference sessions.

18. Work closely with President-elect to assist with logistical and planning aspects of the conference; ie; share files, ideas, whatever else they may need.

19. Have vision/direction to help lead the board in decision making.

20. Be a wise steward of IMEA funds at all times.

21. Run meetings in a timely and effective manner so people feel their investment in being a board member or representative is useful and serves a valid purpose.

22. Communicate, communicate, communicate - You are the person any member or people outside of our state will most likely contact about IMEA. This is a big pain but very important.

23. Lead & assist in presentation & selection process for Distinguished Service Awards.

24 HAVE FUN and enjoy all the new people you will meet.
