Greetings!

The Idaho ACDA Board is proud to once again sponsor the All-State Elementary Honor Choir in conjunction with the 2020 IMEA All-State Conference at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. We are making plans for a superior musical opportunity for the brightest and best young singers in our state, by providing an opportunity to rehearse and perform with a nationally recognized conductor while meeting and making memories with peers from across the state of Idaho.

CONDUCTOR

Ms. Herrington brings to her teaching at Tacoma Youth Chorus experience as a highly regarded internationally, nationally and regionally as a guest conductor, workshop and choral clinician. She served on the faculty of Charles Wright Academy for 44 years, she was a recipient of the Inspirational Faculty Award and Murray Foundation Chair for Teaching Excellence. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Ms. Herrington earned her Master of Education degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Having served in several leadership positions for the WA-American Choral Directors Association Board, she is the 2011 recipient of its Leadership and Service Award. She is an inaugural member of the School of Arts and Communication Advisory Board at Pacific Lutheran University. She has served as visiting faculty at VanderCook College of Music and inducted into the Washington State Music Educators Association Hall of Fame. A noted composer and arranger, she has published through Pavane Publishing, Hal Leonard Publishing, and Colla Voce Publishing. She also edits two choral series for Pavane Publishing.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GRADE REQUIREMENTS

Elementary Honor Choir applicants must be students enrolled in 4th, 5th or elementary 6th grade. School districts that have 6th grade in Middle School are to apply for the Middle School Honor Choir. Singers may only apply for one voice part. They may NOT apply for more than one choir or voice part. If singers are found to have applied more than once, they will be disqualified.

AUDITION PROCEDURES

There are NO auditions for the Elementary Honor Choir. Rather, teachers from each school/organization may nominate/recommend nine students and three alternates that demonstrate outstanding musical ability, attention span, and exemplary behavior.

EXPENSE

The application fee for each student recommended for the Elementary Honor Choir is $10.00 (US). The participation fee of $85.00 must be paid upon acceptance into the choirs by November 22, 2019, and is absolutely NON-REFUNDABLE.

This expense covers 1 full day of high quality rehearsals and performance with other exceptional singers, the conductor, accompanist, sheet music, rehearsal recording, and a T-shirt. All transportation arrangements will be made and expenses paid for by Honor Choir participants. ACDA and IMEA assumes NO financial responsibility for transportation to and from the IMEA Conference in Nampa, ID.

Our Honor Choir Committee is working hard to ensure that each singer will be provided the greatest experience possible for the best price.

HOUSING & CHAPERONES

To provide a safe and productive environment for the students, it is the responsibility of the parents/directors of Elementary Honor Choir singers to secure a chaperone for every singer. One chaperone may serve more than one singer. It is recommended to have 1 chaperone for every 4-5 students. Please follow individual school/ district/organization guidelines and policies as applied to travel, as many have their own specified number of chaperone to student ratios.

There will NOT be a fee for chaperones. However, chaperones will need to purchase tickets to concerts and pay general registration fees to acquire admission badges to ANY ACDA or IMEA interest sessions. Registration badges are required for admittance to IMEA interest sessions.

This is a ONE DAY event, so students and chaperones need to find housing at their own expense, if needed. Please make reservations early, as accommodations in Nampa are limited.
